Your Appointment at B2B
What to expect from your appointment at Back to Back?
What happens in my first appointment?
Your first appointment begins with a thorough case history. We'll talk through the problem you're experiencing — when it started, how it developed, and anything that's changed since. We'll also ask about your general health, any medication you take and your past medical history. This gives us the full picture: not just your symptoms, but the wider context of your health and lifestyle, helping us understand why the problem has arisen.
Your osteopath will then carry out a physical examination — assessing your posture, movement patterns, muscle tone and, where appropriate, reflexes or blood pressure. This allows them to form a working diagnosis, which they will discuss with you before any treatment begins.
What should I wear?
We need to be able to see how you move and assess the relevant areas of your body, so we recommend wearing shorts and a t-shirt or sports bra. If you're unsure what to bring, just give us a call before your appointment.
Will treatment be painful?
Osteopathic treatment is generally gentle, though you may feel some discomfort in and around the area being treated. If acupuncture is used, there can occasionally be a brief sensation as it reaches deeper muscles.
Some mild soreness in the day or two after treatment is normal and usually settles within 48 hours. If you experience anything unexpected, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Are all your osteopaths fully trained?
Yes. All of our osteopaths have completed a minimum of four years' full-time training at accredited institutions and are registered with the General Osteopathic Council. Beyond their core qualifications, every member of the team undertakes ongoing professional development — and many bring years of additional clinical experience on top of that.
Do I need a GP referral?
No — you can book directly with us. We also see patients referred by GPs and consultants, but a referral is not required.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on the nature and duration of your problem. Your osteopath will give you an honest assessment at your first appointment and discuss a realistic treatment plan with you.
“Initially I had trepidations about osteopathy. One of the hardest things is letting go and trusting your osteopath. I was impressed by how thorough the examinations were and by the time taken to listen to what I was actually saying.
At Back to Back there is a warm and friendly atmosphere. James is clinically excellent and possesses intuition. I trust James implicitly and the results have been amazing.”
